Red Light Therapy

Red Light Therapy | Grand Rapids, MI

Light therapy.
Done with intention.

Red light therapy has become incredibly popular—and with popularity comes a lot of devices, a lot of claims, and a lot of confusion about what actually matters.

At Lush Health, we use the professional Celluma ELITE system and focus on the part that matters most: the right light, the right treatment mode, and enough consistency to actually give the therapy a chance to work.

Photobiomodulation

Your cells respond to light.

Red light therapy is a form of photobiomodulation—the use of specific wavelengths of light to influence biological activity in tissue.

Unlike ultraviolet light, therapeutic red and near-infrared light are not used to tan or intentionally damage the skin.

Instead, selected wavelengths are delivered at controlled doses for specific therapeutic purposes.

The important part isn't that the light is red.
It's what wavelength, what dose, and how consistently it is used.
Why Red Light Therapy?

One technology. Several useful applications.

Different light wavelengths and treatment programs are used for different goals.

Skin + Aging

Red-light programs may support healthier-looking skin and are used to address visible signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.

Acne

Blue-light therapy can be incorporated into selected treatment programs for acne, while red light may be used alongside it as part of a broader skin-focused protocol.

Pain + Recovery

Photobiomodulation has been studied for musculoskeletal discomfort, inflammation, tissue recovery, and selected pain conditions.

Wellness + Maintenance

Some patients incorporate regular red light sessions into a broader routine focused on recovery, skin health, and general wellness.

Why Celluma ELITE?

Because the device matters.

Not every red light device is the same.

Light therapy depends on wavelength, energy delivery, treatment time, positioning, and the protocol being used. Simply buying something that glows red does not make it equivalent to a professional photobiomodulation system.

Lush Health uses the Celluma ELITE because it gives us a professional platform designed for multiple clinical treatment applications rather than a single generic light setting.

Three Therapeutic Wavelengths Celluma ELITE uses blue light at approximately 465 nm, red light at approximately 640 nm, and near-infrared light at approximately 880 nm depending on the selected treatment mode.
Multiple FDA-Cleared Modes The professional ELITE system has treatment modes designed for several applications including aging skin, acne, pain, hair restoration, and body-focused treatments.
Professional Positioning The multi-panel design and articulating treatment arm allow the light source to be positioned appropriately over the treatment area rather than relying on someone to hold a small device in the right place.
Treatment-Specific Programming The wavelengths and dose vary according to the treatment program rather than assuming one light exposure should be used for every goal.
The Part People Skip

Consistency is the treatment.

This is probably the most important thing to understand before you spend money on red light therapy.

One treatment may feel relaxing, but photobiomodulation is generally used as a series—not a once-a-season event.

The biological response is stimulated repeatedly over time. That is why treatment protocols typically call for multiple sessions each week during the initial treatment phase.

Typical Celluma Protocol

Approximately 2–3 treatments each week.

Celluma protocols commonly recommend an initial series of treatments several times per week for approximately four weeks, depending on the treatment program. Ongoing maintenance may then be recommended depending on the goal and response.

This is exactly why we offer packages. If you want the potential benefit of red light therapy, we want you using it often enough to reasonably expect one.

What To Expect

Possibly the easiest appointment you'll have all week.

No needles. No downtime. No complicated recovery instructions.

01

Get Comfortable

You'll settle into the treatment room and we'll position you based on the area being treated.

02

Position The Celluma

The ELITE panels are positioned over the treatment area so the light can be delivered according to the selected program.

03

Relax

The treatment is noninvasive. You simply rest while the programmed light session runs.

04

Come Back

This part matters. A consistent series is what turns red light from an occasional experience into an actual treatment plan.

Who Is It For?

More people than you might think.

Red light therapy can fit into several very different treatment plans. The important part is matching the program to the reason you're doing it.

Patients focused on skin quality and visible signs of aging
Selected acne-focused skincare plans
Patients interested in supportive recovery after exercise
Selected musculoskeletal and discomfort-focused wellness plans
Patients pairing red light with facials, microneedling, or other aesthetic treatments when appropriate
Anyone who would benefit from thirty quiet minutes in which nobody is allowed to ask them for anything
A Quick Reality Check

Red light is useful.
It is not magic.

Photobiomodulation has legitimate clinical applications and a growing evidence base, but it should not be marketed as something that cures every disease, reverses aging, fixes every injury, balances every hormone, or transforms your body after one session.

We would rather give you realistic expectations and a consistent treatment plan than promise something the technology cannot deliver.

Right device.
Right protocol.
Enough consistency to matter.
Red Light Therapy Q&A

Because everyone has seen a red light mask on Instagram.

What exactly is red light therapy?

Red light therapy is a form of photobiomodulation that exposes tissue to selected wavelengths of visible red and/or near-infrared light at controlled doses. Different wavelengths and treatment parameters are used for different applications.

Why do you use Celluma ELITE?

Celluma ELITE is a professional multi-panel photobiomodulation system with multiple FDA-cleared treatment modes. It uses blue, red, and near-infrared wavelengths in treatment-specific combinations rather than relying on a single generic red-light setting.

How often should I do red light therapy?

Frequency depends on the treatment goal, but Celluma protocols commonly recommend approximately two to three sessions per week during an initial treatment series, often for about four weeks. Maintenance schedules may be recommended afterward.

Can I just come once?

You can, but if your goal is a therapeutic result rather than simply trying the experience, one isolated session is not how red light therapy is generally intended to be used. Repeated exposure according to an appropriate protocol is important.

How long is a session?

Celluma treatment sessions are typically around 30 minutes depending on the treatment program. Plan for a little additional time for setup and positioning.

Does it hurt?

Red light therapy is noninvasive and does not involve needles, injections, or skin resurfacing. Most patients simply relax during the treatment.

Is there downtime?

Red light therapy itself generally does not require the type of recovery period associated with resurfacing procedures, injections, or surgery. If red light is being paired with another treatment, however, the recovery instructions for that treatment still apply.

Can I combine it with other Lush treatments?

Often, yes. Depending on the treatment and your individual situation, red light may fit into plans involving skincare, facials, microneedling, recovery, wellness, or other services. Ask us if you are unsure whether it makes sense with a specific treatment.

Is an at-home red light mask the same thing?

Home devices vary considerably in wavelength, irradiance, treatment area, positioning, dosing, and regulatory clearance. Some legitimate home photobiomodulation devices exist, but they should not all be assumed to deliver the same treatment as a professional multi-panel system.

Why do you sell packages?

Because consistency matters. Packages make it easier to complete an initial treatment series at the frequency recommended for meaningful photobiomodulation rather than remembering to schedule one session every few months.
