Traditional dermal filler is excellent when we want predictable volume, contour or structural support. But regenerative aesthetics gives us additional options.
We can use your own plasma to create an autologous biofiller. We can use calcium hydroxylapatite with Radiesse to provide structure while stimulating the skin. Or we can use Sculptra to gradually encourage your body to rebuild collagen over time.
Sometimes we stimulate volume.

These products often get lumped together because they are injectable. That is where the similarity ends.

Biofiller begins with a blood draw rather than opening a syringe of manufactured dermal filler.
Plasma is separated from your blood and processed into a gel-like material that can be used for selected soft-tissue and facial rejuvenation applications.
Because the material is autologous, it comes from you. That makes biofiller especially appealing to patients interested in a more biologically derived approach to facial rejuvenation.
It is not identical to hyaluronic-acid filler. The handling, predictability, longevity and ideal treatment areas are different. We use it because it gives us another option—not because every filler patient should automatically switch to plasma.
Autologous
Prepared from your own blood rather than a manufactured hyaluronic-acid, CaHA or PLLA injectable.
Soft Volume
Plasma gel has been studied for facial wrinkles, contour correction and selected areas of volume loss.
Individualized
Biofiller is not the answer to every structural problem. Sometimes a traditional filler or biostimulator gives us better control.
This is the one we reach for when we want the conversation to include both immediate structure and what the skin can build afterward.
Radiesse doesn't just occupy space.
Radiesse is made with calcium hydroxylapatite—or CaHA—microspheres. It can provide immediate structural correction while also activating fibroblasts involved in collagen production.
That dual personality is what makes it interesting: there can be an immediate aesthetic effect, while the biologic response develops over time.
This one asks you to be patient.
Sculptra is made with poly-L-lactic acid—PLLA-SCA.
Rather than functioning like a traditional filler that simply places volume exactly where the product sits, Sculptra stimulates your own collagen production and gradually helps rebuild underlying structure.
That is why the result develops differently. You are not looking for a dramatic overnight change. You are giving your tissue time to create the change.
For the patient who says, “I want to look better, but I don't want to look filled,” that gradual evolution can be very appealing.

Sculptra is placed according to the treatment plan. Initial fullness immediately afterward is not the final collagen result.

The PLLA particles begin stimulating the biologic process involved in new collagen production.
Over The Following Months
Facial structure and skin support can gradually improve as new collagen develops.

Treatment plans may include a series and future maintenance based on age, baseline volume loss and individual response.

They're all injectables. They're definitely not all filler.
What is biofiller?
Biofiller generally refers to an autologous plasma gel prepared from your own blood and processed into a gel-like material that can be used for selected soft-tissue augmentation and facial rejuvenation applications.
Is biofiller the same as PRP?
No. They may begin with the same blood draw, but the processing and final material are different. PRP is designed around concentrated platelets and their signaling components. Plasma gel is processed to create a more filler-like consistency for selected volume and soft-tissue applications.
What is a biostimulator?
A biostimulator is an injectable treatment intended to stimulate your tissue to produce more of its own structural components, particularly collagen. Radiesse and Sculptra both have biostimulatory effects, but they use different materials and do not behave identically.
What is Radiesse made from?
Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite, or CaHA, microspheres. Radiesse can provide structural correction while also stimulating fibroblast activity associated with collagen production.
What is Sculptra made from?
Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid, or PLLA-SCA. It works gradually by stimulating natural collagen production and helping restore underlying facial structure over time.
Which gives the fastest result?
If immediate visible correction matters, Radiesse and biofiller may create a more immediate change depending on the treatment area. Sculptra is deliberately more gradual because much of its effect comes from collagen produced after treatment.
Which looks the most natural?
Natural results depend much more on patient selection, amount, placement and injector judgment than on one universally “natural” product. All three can be used conservatively.
Is Sculptra traditional filler?
Not in the way most patients think of hyaluronic-acid filler. Sculptra's primary value is its gradual stimulation of your own collagen rather than simply leaving a gel volume behind.
Is Radiesse filler or a biostimulator?
It can function as both. Radiesse can provide immediate structural correction while its calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres also stimulate biologic processes involved in collagen and skin support.
Do I have to choose before my appointment?
Absolutely not. Tell us what you want to improve, how quickly you want to see change and how you feel about different treatment approaches. We can recommend the product—or combination—that makes the most sense.
