Microneedling
So microneedling, I know it sounds scary, but hear me out. At our Medical Spa in Grand Rapids, MI, we use this device that has a bunch of tiny needles to poke little holes in your skin. I promise it’s not as bad as it sounds, and there’s actually a really good reason for doing it.
Basically, when you create these microscopic injuries, your skin freaks out a little bit and goes into repair mode. It starts cranking out collagen and elastin like crazy, which are the things that keep your skin looking young and bouncy. It’s like your skin gets amnesia about how old it is and starts acting like it’s 25 again.
The cool thing is we’re not using chemicals or lasers, we’re just convincing your skin to fix itself. Your body does all the heavy lifting, we just give it a reason to get started.
Sometimes we’ll add PRP from your blood, or these fancy exosomes, or other biologics to supercharge the whole process. We also do advanced skin rejuvenation, chemical peels, hair loss restoration, and wrinkle treatment/Botox if you want to tackle other stuff too.
Skin Problems Microneedling Addresses
Acne scars are the big one. You know those little crater-looking spots from when you had bad skin in high school? Microneedling can smooth a lot of that out. It’s pretty amazing how much better your skin can look after we get your body to rebuild those areas.
Fine lines drive people nuts too, especially around the eyes where you’ve been squinting at your phone for years. The new collagen that grows in helps plump those up so they’re not as obvious. You don’t look like you had plastic surgery, just like you got really good sleep for a month straight.
Big pores are another thing we see a lot. Your skin gets tighter and firmer, which makes those pores look smaller. It’s not magic, but it definitely makes a difference in how smooth your skin looks overall.
Sun damage and those random dark spots that showed up sometime in your 30s also improve quite a bit. As your skin renews itself, a lot of that discoloration fades and everything looks more even. It’s like hitting the reset button on years of Michigan summers.
Your Microneedling Treatment Experience
First, we’ll sit down and talk about what’s bugging you about your skin and whether microneedling is actually going to help. No point in doing a treatment that won’t address your specific issues. We’ll also discuss whether it’s worth adding any of those fancy enhancements I mentioned.
When you come in for treatment, we put numbing cream on so you’re not uncomfortable. Most people say it feels weird more than painful, kind of like rubbing fine sandpaper on your face. Takes about 30-45 minutes depending on how much area we’re covering.
Afterward, you’ll look like you spent too much time in the sun, but that redness usually goes away within a day or two. We’ll give you the whole aftercare spiel, which is mostly just being nice to your skin and staying out of the sun while it heals.
You can probably go to work the next day, but maybe skip your workout for a couple days. Results start showing up pretty quickly, but your skin keeps getting better for weeks as all that new collagen develops.
Results Patients See from Microneedling
The changes happen slowly, which is actually nice because you don’t suddenly look like a different person. Your skin starts feeling softer first, then you start noticing that it looks better too. It’s gradual enough that people just think you’ve been taking really good care of yourself.
Those acne scars become way less obvious, and your skin feels smooth instead of bumpy. The lines around your eyes and mouth soften up, and you get this glow that makes people ask if you’ve been on vacation.
Pores shrink down, especially the big ones on your nose that you’ve been obsessing over. Your skin tone evens out, and those annoying spots start fading. The whole texture just improves dramatically.
The best part is how much more confident people feel afterward. We have patients who stop avoiding pictures or feeling self-conscious about their skin. One woman told us she finally stopped wearing foundation to the grocery store, which might sound small but was huge for her.
Who Benefits from Microneedling Treatments
Anyone dealing with acne scars, fine lines, rough skin, or general aging stuff can probably benefit from microneedling. It works on pretty much every skin type, which is nice because some treatments are really picky about who can get them.
Younger people often do it for acne scarring or to prevent problems before they get worse. Older folks usually want to fix damage that’s already there and get back some of that smooth skin they remember having.
You need to be realistic about what it can do and be willing to do multiple treatments to get the best results. Most people need somewhere between 3-6 sessions spaced a few weeks apart. It’s not a one-and-done kind of thing.
Main thing is having healthy skin that can heal properly. If you’ve got active breakouts, certain skin conditions, or you’re pregnant, we might need to wait or try something else instead.
